God speed and good hunting

Coalition forces launched the largest air assault in Iraq since U.S. forces invaded that country in 2003, the U.S. military confirmed Thursday. The assault was launched in the southern Salah Ad Din province to clear a suspected insurgent operating area southeast of Samarra.

The operation, which began Thursday morning, is expected to continue for several days ahead of the Shiite Muslim holiday. U.S. military commanders say the operation was largely carried out by Iraqi forces based on tips from other Iraqis.

Coalition forces have dubbed the assault "Operation Swarmer," which is an operation consisting of about 1,500 soldiers in all, including the Iraqi Army's 1st Brigade, 4th Division, the 101st Airborne Division's 3rd Brigade Combat Team and the 101st Combat Aviation Brigade.

Hang on a second, I thought the majority of Iraqis, who happened to be muslims, hated the west and preferred their tribalism and western aid packages to our imperial ways of democracy and that wretched capitalism. I thought Al qaeda had the support of Iraqis, I thought Abu somewhere was just the tip of the iceberg, I thought the Americans were just there to steal oil and enslave Iraqis, with no basic wage conditions or employee benefits and flush korans down the toilets.

What have we here, the Iraqi army's 1st Brigade (I doubt they are manned by pygmies from Africa), standing shoulder to shoulder with infidels, from the hated America, freed by them, trained by them, armed by them, fighting for and with them, sacrificing their lives for each other, looking out for each others backs, routing a enemy that knows no honour, courage or humanity.

According to the Coalition Press Information Center, initial reports indicate that a number of enemy weapons caches have been captured, containing artillery shells, explosives, IED-making materials, and military uniforms. Troops also captured several people, according to CPIC.

Maj. Tom Bryant of the 101st Airborne Division told FOX News on Thursday that the No. 1 priority of the mission is to deny safe haven for insurgent forces. We'll continue to search until we've made absolutely certain there are no weapons out there that the bad guys can use against us," Bryant continued, adding, "we have not faced any kind of resistance that we've not been able to handle."

My question is when last did the US military face any resistance in Iraq, that they could not utterly humiliate and decimate, the only elements standing in the way of the US Army is not the scum hiding amongst women and children and shooting you in the back, but the weak kneed politicians and arm chair experts predicting death, defeat, offering exit maps, new complex and unworkable methods of dialogue to an enemy that will not listen.

The assault came as Iraq's new parliament was sworn in Thursday, with parties still deadlocked over the next government, vehicles banned from Baghdad's streets to prevent car bombings and the country under the shadow of a feared civil war.

Funny thing about this impending civil war, it seems its only the haters in the west who are itching for the whole place to fall apart, we have seen the insurgents do their utmost to provoke a civil war between Sunnis and Shiites in Iraq, yes there have been reprisals, but the descent into chaos and the end of the middle east as we know it, is only in the hearts and on lips of the anti war, anti American alliance outside Iraq. From what I can see the Iraqis have shown remarkable restraint at the insurgent provocation's for a people, who we are constantly told are too blood thirsty, stupid or backward for democracy.

Ret. U.S. Army Maj. Gen. Bob Scales said Samarra is a symbol for the insurgency in Iraq. He said coalition forces are getting better intelligence each month because an increasing number of Iraqis are confident that their country will be better off once the terror elements within are wiped out.

My prayers are with you, Americans and Iraqis.
